Levels 1 and 2

Learning is only the beginning.

The Apprenticeship is one journey with two levels. You learn by doing, on a real problem, and you finish with something you can show and explain.

What you need to know before you begin.

Open for expressions of interest
Levels
Levels 1 and 2. One journey, two questions.
Who it is for
Nurses, midwives, healthcare workers and healthcare professionals who can already use Foundation-level skills, whether from the Foundation or from experience.
Before you start
Foundation-level skills and judgement, and one real problem from your own ward, clinic, community or service.
How it runs
Level 1: practise with guidance on tasks that look like real work. Level 2: build something for one real problem and show what it does. You move on when you can answer each level’s question with your own work.
Dates, format and cost
Not yet confirmed. Express your interest and we will tell you as soon as they are.
What you leave with
Work you can show and explain: a project, prototype, research output, workflow, resource, creative work, case study or portfolio. Completion is recognised by the Academy. It is not accreditation or a qualification.
Your responsibilities
It is learning, not employment. You work with guidance and it does not hand you clinical responsibility.
After Level 2
The Fellowship is a future step. It is not open yet and has no dates to share.
Next step
Express your interest. Not sure you are at this level yet? Start with the Foundation.

Two levels, one journey

Can you use it? Then: what can you show?

Each level answers one honest question. You move on when you can answer it in your own words, with your own work.

Level 1

Learn + Practise

Can you use what you’re learning?

You practise with guidance on tasks that look like real work. Mistakes are part of it. You are a learner here, and that is the point.

Level 2

Build + Prove

What can you show?

You take one real problem and build something for it. Then you show what it does, what you learned and what you would change.

The core rule

One person. One skill. One project. One outcome.

Depth beats breadth. One thing done properly teaches more than five things half done.

Learner and apprentice

You are learning and working at the same time.

An apprentice is not only a student. You work on a real problem or project with appropriate guidance and support around you. It is learning, not employment, and it does not hand you clinical responsibility.

Start with a real problem

Something you have seen in a ward, clinic, community or service. Not a made-up exercise.

Work with guidance

You are not left to figure it out alone. Never walk alone applies here too.

Build small, test early

Try something, see what happens, improve it. That loop is the skill.

Explain your thinking

Being able to say why you did it that way matters as much as the thing itself.

What proof can look like

Different people finish with different evidence.

Nobody produces all of these. Your evidence depends on your problem, your direction and your setting. These are examples of what it might be.

  • A project you built
  • A prototype you tested
  • A research output
  • A workflow you improved
  • A resource other people can use
  • Creative or communication work
  • A case study
  • A portfolio of small pieces

Taking part and finishing

This tells someone you were there and you completed the work set.

Proof of work

This is the thing you built and can explain. It is not accreditation, and we do not describe it as a qualification.

After Level 2

Future

Fellowship is the next step we are working towards.

Apply your work more widely, contribute to others and lead. It does not exist yet and has no dates, structure or entry rules to share.

Start where you are

Bring one real problem.

Tell us you are interested and we will let you know when Apprenticeship places are confirmed.
