About

Nurses and midwives should help decide what healthcare becomes.

Healthcare is changing quickly. Nurses, midwives and their colleagues should be part of shaping that change, not only living with it. The Academy exists to make that easier, starting with the knowledge you already have.

Why we exist

Access to knowledge is not shared equally.

New tools arrive with new language, new expectations and new gatekeepers. Not everyone gets the same access to training, support, networks or the room to try things.

Start where you are.

Whatever your setting, shift pattern or confidence level. There is no entry point you have to reach before you are allowed to begin.

An AI beginner is not a beginner human.

You already know your patients, your practice and your system. That knowledge is the starting material, not a gap to fix.

People are the story.

Technology is the enabler. It matters when it helps a person, a service or a community do something better.

Complexity inside. Simplicity outside.

The thinking behind the Academy can be detailed. What you meet should be clear.

Who the Academy serves

Nursing-anchored. Midwifery-explicit. Team-wide.

Nurses and midwives sit at the centre. The wider healthcare team is welcome alongside them. We work across Africa and with the diaspora, because the profession moves across borders.

  • Nurses

Across roles, settings and stages of your career.

  • Midwives

Across practice, education, leadership, research and innovation.

  • Healthcare workers

People supporting care and services across different settings.

  • Healthcare professionals

Other healthcare professions learning and contributing alongside.

What changes

From making sense of it to helping lead it.

This is the arc the Academy is built around. Not everyone travels all of it, and not in a straight line. It is a direction, not a ladder you must climb.

  1. 01

    Understand

Make sense of AI and digital tools in plain language.

  2. 02

    Capability

Build skills and confidence you can actually use.

  3. 03

    Practice

Apply them in real work, with real constraints.

  4. 04

    Evidence

Ask good questions and check what actually works.

  5. 05

    Opportunity

Find a meaningful next place for what you can do: learning, projects, research, mentorship, collaboration, work, creative work or a venture.

  6. 06

    Contribution

Give something back to your service and your peers.

  7. 07

    Leadership

Help shape decisions instead of waiting for them.

What makes it different

Built by healthcare people, for healthcare people.

This is not a general technology course pointed at healthcare. It starts from clinical and professional reality, then brings the tools to it.

  • Innovation starts with a real problem, not with a tool.
  • Research starts with a good question.
  • AI for scale. Humans for depth.
  • You finish with work you can show and explain.
  • Never walk alone — you learn alongside other people.

Ownership

The Academy is owned by TechNurses Africa.

TechNurses Africa builds and runs the Academy. We work with others, and partnership never means ownership. Anyone we work with will be named only once that is agreed.

Africa AI Academy for Nurses, Midwives and Healthcare Professionals is the Academy's official name.

Responsible AI

Use AI. Question it. Verify it.

We help people use AI, question it, check information and use it responsibly. AI does not replace professional judgement, professional standards or appropriate healthcare governance. Where something is not known, we say it is not known.

Start where you are

You don’t need to have everything figured out.
